Proposal Three

Note: the following is not for teachers only, but from my experience of having attended several conferences, about half the attendees have been teachers, and nonteachers are welcome. The title may actually prompt those who are not educators to attend out of curiosity.

 TEACHERS ONLY!

Writing from Three Dimensions

In The Anthropocene Reviewed, popular author John Green presents “a symphony of essays” on topics as varied as “Sunsets” to “The Internet.”  Assuming that reading good writing helps us become better writers, as well as the idea that we learn best by teaching, we will explore writing from three different perspectives.

In addition to the usual interpretive analysis of literature, we will explore the use of structural and personal analyses and why Green’s book lends itself well to all three approaches.

Duration: 45-60 minutes, depending on the needs of the conference.

Proposal Four

 Co-Authoring a Nonfiction Book

The presenter describes in detail how his initial idea of writing a book tentatively titled Autobiography of a Business that relied on his having kept a journal of events for seven years while running a business morphed into a new form of writing.

This began when the leader of the Princeton Writers Group asked if George would coauthor a book about starting and maintaining a small business. The book became two volumes: BE YOUR OWN BOSS: Chester Says I and Chester Says II.

It is important to know how authors decide conflicting issues amicably, how each assumes his respective responsibility for publishing, and who decides what photos and diagrams are inserted into the text.

Duration:  45-60 minutes, depending on the needs of the conference.

Note:  A limited number of these books will be available for purchase.
